With another failed Cubs season in the books and a failed experiment with Milton Bradley, it got me thinking: Who are the Top 10 biggest busts in Chicago Cubs history? You would think with all the years of losing, there have to be some good names on this list. Let's get this thing goin! Also, these are in no particular order, just 10 really bad players/signing for the Cubs! Enjoy... or not, haha. Begin Slideshow

Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye: Cubs End 2009 with 5-2 Loss to Diamondbacks

October 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Filed: Oct. 4, 2009 (Click here for the photo gallery of this weekend's games.) It's over. The Cubs ended the 2009 season in a game that pretty much sums up the year: They got some good pitching, someone homered, and in the end, they couldn't come through in the clutch, this time losing 5-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cubs finish the season 83-78. Yes, I said good pitching. I mean, Ryan Dempster was not terrible, even with allowing five runs in five innings. He struck out 10, was generally in the zone, and really his only mistake was with Chris Young—never miss high ...

Why I Love Those Lovable Losers, The Chicago Cubs: Words From The Heart Part Two

October 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I feel like the last article I wrote about why I love the Cubs didn't do it justice. There is much more to my love for the wretched Cubs then just: "Because we play two." Here is why. Being a Cubs fan, you build character. You may not think so, but you do. For example, life is pretty easy being a Yankees fan. You have seen 26 world championships, many Hall of Fame ball players pass through your park (a brand sparkling new park), and your team has the highest payroll in the majors. Yankees fans complain if they don't win a World Series. They ...

Chicago Cubs: Season Ends, Blaming Begins

On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs lost for the last time in 2009. Then they started lining up scapegoats. First to board the no-expenses paid bus out of Chicago is hitting coach Von Joshua. Of course, he's the second hitting coach to be blamed for the disappointment this year; Gerald Perry was thrown under the bus a couple months ago. Both Perry and Joshua were professionals about being the person fired for GM Jim Hendry's failures last winter. As any fan knows, it's the hitting coach's fault that Aaron Miles isn't good and Milton Bradley's a clubhouse cancer. But reality for Cubs fans on this cool, ...

BJ Upton And The Cubs: A Match Fit For Marriage?

October 4, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Well Cub’s fans, the season is essentially over, save for a game vs. the D-Backs today that could not mean anything less, with the exception of watching some young prospects. It has been no secret the last few weeks/months, that many teams have been scouting Tampa Bay’s BJ Upton.   Upton, a second overall pick in the 2002 draft straight out of high school, has just turned 25. But, save for his first full season at the major league level, he has been rather disappointing in terms of performance, especially this year, possibly keeping the Ray’s out of playoff contention. Is it ...

Come To Think Of It…Take Heart, Cubs Fans: There Is Hope

October 4, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I know that being a fan of the Cubs may not seem to be a very hopeful situation right now. After all, the team is on the verge of completing what has been a very disappointing season, with seemingly little hope due to payroll inflexibility caused by expensive, long-term contracts. But I'm here to tell you that all is not lost. Yes, on the surface, things may look bleak. But when you consider what our competition is facing as well as a new owner coming in, there may be some legitimate reason for optimism after all. First, the Cardinals, who had a great ...

Downbeat Chicago Cubs Drop Opener to Arizona Diamondbacks, 12-3

October 2, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs were officially eliminated from the playoffs. On Friday, they went down without a whimper against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a lackluster effort in front of the Wrigley faithful.Having lost all hope of a wildcard berth just three days after missing out on the NL Central crown, the Cubbies looked like a team with nothing to play for when they were defeated 12-3 by the D-Backs behind right hander Billy Buckner.Arizona plated three runs in the first inning, a four-spot in the third and insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth to hand the Cubs ...
