Milton Bradley: Jim Hendry and Chicago Cubs Fire Back

March 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Chicago Cubs General Manager, Jim Hendry, had some good words of advice for Milton Bradley on Wednesday. Hendry told ESPNChicago.com that it is time for Milton to look at himself in the mirror and take some responsibility for his unsuccessful season in Chicago. Bradley recently did an interview with ESPN's Colleen Dominguez. He told her that he felt like a prisoner in his own home when he was in Chicago. Also that he received hate mail with no postage mark on it. When asked if this mail came from inside the organization, Bradley told her that he hoped not but maybe ...

Chicago Cubs: Kevin Millar at Wrigley? No Thanks

March 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

With 25 days until Opening Day for the Chicago Cubs, I would like to clear the air about one Cub. Kevin Millar, owner of a World Series ring and scruffy facial hair, is, in the simplest form, no longer a serviceable major leaguer. If he makes the team out of camp it will be because his image as a blue-collar "winner" preceded him, and likely not because he tore the cover off the ball in Arizona against AAA pitching (although he is hitting a robust .400 so far this spring...in five at-bats). I'm not here to argue Millar's resume because it speaks for itself. He ...

Seattle’s Milton Bradley Needs To Let His Hatred for the Chicago Cubs Go

March 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggonit, people like me." That was not a quote from Milton Bradley, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, and about a fourth of the teams in baseball. He's probably not good enough. He certainly wasn't in Chicago. I don't know how smart he is, but does a guy that acts like him have anything upstairs?  As for people liking him—well you know the answer to that one. People can't stand him—from his teammates, coaches, managers, GM's, and the fans. Have I left anyone out? If they knew him, they wouldn't like him either. He doesn't even like himself. After  departing Chicago and the debacle ...

Chicago Cubs Position Breakdown: Bullpen

March 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

This article was originally published at TheDailyCub.com, my blog offering thoughts and insight on the Chicago Cubs. After breaking down the starters a few days ago, it’s time to look at the guys who will be working off of their performances. The Cubs’ bullpen has always been a concern, and they have been changing closers pretty much every season. Most recently, Kerry Wood and Kevin Gregg held down the closer position, but neither of them were closer for more than one season.  So what will the bullpen look like this year? Closer: Carlos Marmol Rest of Bullpen: Complete Mess I know that doesn’t offer up ...

In Milton Bradley’s World, I Felt Like a Prisoner

March 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

I guess today is just going to be the day that black men make me weep. That's my first thought after running through the morning news, and finding these delightfully insane, and completely narcissistic interviews with Milton Bradley and Torii Hunter. First, we have ESPN sitting down with Milton Bradley to discuss at length, his time in Chicago. Bless ESPN, who never resists an opportunity to facilitate flinging in the name of ratings, but this piece may have been the worst thing I've seen since Bonds on Bonds. Asked about his manager, Lou Piniella: "The next day, he called me into his office and ...

Nomar Garciaparra Leaves the Field for the Set

March 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Nomar Garciaparra , the baseball superstar most popular for his time as a shortstop for the Boston Red Sox has decided to call it a career. The six-time All-Star called a press conference earlier today at City of Palms Park in Fort Meyers, Fla. He made the announcement after signing a one-day minor league contract with the Red Sox citing that he wanted to retire with the organization that gave him the most memorable moments of his career. After winning American League Rookie of the Year in 1997 with Boston, Garciaparra went on to enjoy six and a half more years of ...

Chicago Cubs: Top 10 Prospects for 2010

March 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The MLB off season is a time in which fans and scouts alike fantasize over newly acquired prospects, and the playoff impact they may have in the future. Clearly, every neighborhood lemonade stand and their mothers have heard of the glorified right hander Stephen Strasburg, as well as Atlanta's Jason Heyward, both of which have been deemed "franchise saviors" by their respective clubs; but what about the guys that have floated under the radar in one of the most respected farm systems in the entire league? For the Chicago Cubs, bright young talent can be seen everywhere throughout the franchise; whether ...

Blasting Off On Milton Bradley and Racism in Wrigleyville

March 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Milton Bradley continues to pound the drum of his lost 2009 season being Chicago's fault, Wrigleyville's fault, the Cubs' fault. But not his own. Now Bradley is back with new comments, to ESPN's Colleen Dominguez, about the racial tension he felt while with the Cubs. "Well, I mean unless you go out there and you're Superman -- you're Andre Dawson, you're Ernie Banks, you're in the Hall of Fame -- then it's going to be tough," Bradley said. "People are just the way they are." Bradley's latest round of Cub-hating comments are possibly his most arrogant and self-serving comments ...

Milton Bradley: Victim of a Racist City or Not?

March 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

"I was a prisoner in my own city," Milton Bradley told ESPN. But that was not all he said. He was asked if race played a role in the "city's hatred" for Bradley. The response he gave to ESPN was repulsive. "I got the same mail Latroy [Hawkins] probably got; the same mail Jacque [Jones] got," he told Colleen Dominguez on ESPN. News flash Milton: Cubs fans everywhere didn't hate you because you were black. We hated you because you got paid an enormous sum of money and you sucked. You sucked beyond the acceptable level of sucking. When you are making around $10 ...

Will 2010 Deliver The Carlos Zambrano The Cubs So Desperately Need?

March 9, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

There's an old cliche that tells us you can't teach talent. While that may be true, some players get more out of their talent than others. To date, Carlos Zambrano has always fallen into the underachiever category. Look, it has never been a question of whether he has the stuff to succeed; rather, it has always been a question of preparation, self-control, and health. It's not just a matter of statistics, though everyone likes to point out that Big Z has never won 20 games in a season. In fact, it can't be just about stats, for they fail to tell the whole truth. First of all, if you are still ...
