Chicago Cubs: On 2nd Thought, Everything Is Rosy with the Future of This Team

September 4, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

I have recently written several critical articles about Cubs owner Tom Ricketts. But thanks to some of you, the loyal Cubbies fanbase, I have changed my mind. Everything is fine. No problems here. Nothing to see, keep moving along. Thanks for opening my eyes, those of you who are blind to the obvious poor record and lack of organizational leadership, philosophy and success in player development. Oops, there I go again. Shame on me, that's being negative and we all know that I should write positive articles about the Cubs. I am truly sorry. Because when you really take a deep dive, you see ...

Chicago Cubs Should Hire Kim Ng as Their Next General Manager

September 4, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

In the midst of yet another disappointing season, the Chicago Cubs decided to part ways with General Manager Jim Hendry and are now in the market for a new GM. To find the perfect candidate for the job, the Cubs need look no further than the MLB front offices. Kim Ng, the Senior Vice President for Baseball Operations and a longtime assistant GM prior to that, is just the person to turn the Cubs around. She Brings New Expertise to the Table In recent years, baseball has moved away from hiring GMs solely on scouting and playing credentials and instead moved ...

Chicago Cubs: After Microcosmic Loss to Pirates, Whose Head Will Roll?

Derrek Lee did not hit the ball off the best part of the bat at Wrigley Field Saturday, with his team down two runs and the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning. He watched the flight of the ball, but without his usual bop out of the batter's box. Despite the seven years in which he plied his trade at Wrigley, he was not sure the ball was gone until it nestled itself into the basket atop the wall in deep left field.Perhaps what made the ball so hard to read for Lee was the stark backdrop ...

Chicago Cubs Rehire Oneri Fleita, Proving Owner Tom Ricketts Is a Fool

September 3, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Horrifying news broke this afternoon for Chicago Cub fans with the announcement that Player Personnel Director Oneri Fleita had his contract extended. Knowing that he was a Jim Hendry guy, you would think he would likely be out when the Cubs hired a new general manager. With this move, owner Tom Ricketts just put the kibosh on any of the big name GM's being bandied about coming to the Cubs. Do you think they're going to want to be told who they have to employ? What was he thinking? The timing is crazy, just like waiting until July 22 to fire ...

Chicago Cubs’ Owner Tom Ricketts Continues Clueless Display by Extending Fleita

September 3, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Chicago Cubs' owner Tom Ricketts has guaranteed the contract of Vice President of Player Personnel Oneri Fleita for four more years. It's not that Fleita isn't a good baseball man, although I have my concerns. The bigger problem I have with this move is that it further handcuffs the next Cubs' GM and seems hypocritical of other recent comments made by Ricketts. ‘‘The GM will be responsible for the baseball operations,’’ Ricketts recently told the media, ‘‘The results are his, and he owns them. They have to be able to have the freedom to hire the people they feel will give ...

Chicago Cubs: Will They Hire Andrew Friedman, Epstein, Cashman or Billy Beane?

September 3, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

With September here, it's only a month away from the Cubs starting the only season that matters to them this year—hunting season for a new general manager. And according to all reports, Cub owner Tom Ricketts is hunting big game. You keep hearing Andrew Friedman, Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein and Billy Beane's names thrown out there. Cashman and Friedman will be available once the season is over, while Epstein has a year left on his contract, and Beane owns a piece of the A's and is signed through 2014. Epstein is an intriguing figure. Having broken the Bambino's curse, would ...

Why Chicago Cubs’ Carlos Pena Will Be Back with the Cubs at First Base in 2012

September 1, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Chicago Cubs are going to have a job opening at first base next season. The Cubs will have a few options with what they could do at the position. I have had my opinions in the past, but things have certainly changed with some events over the last few weeks. Still, everyone in Chicago has one thing on their mind:When are the Cubs signing Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder? Almost everyone in Chicago seems convinced that one of these situations is going to happen. I am sure some people are even convinced the Cubs will get both, and that just ...
