For Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer Would Make Winning Combination

October 20, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

If the reports are true, not only will Theo Epstein be joining the Cubs as President of Baseball Operations, but Jed Hoyer may also be coming on board as GM. Hoyer, the current San Diego Padres GM, was a senior vice president and assistant GM to Epstein in Boston from 2005 to 2009. While he is signed through 2013, the Padres are expected to be willing to let him go so that Josh Byrnes can take over as GM. Byrnes is a favorite of Padres CEO Jeff Moorad and served as Moorad's GM in Arizona.  Also, Moorad and Cubs owner Tom Ricketts ...

Theo Epstein: 5 Candidates to Be Chicago Cubs GM If Epstein Hires Help

October 19, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Theo Epstein might not be named to his new post with the Chicago Cubs until after the World Series, and at this point, perhaps that is for the best. The Cubs remain locked in negotiations with the Boston Red Sox over the poaching of Epstein, who has been GM in Boston since 2002. Now the fun starts, though, because as it turns out, this might be much less a lateral move than anyone previously thought. Epstein would become the Cubs' president of baseball operations, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, and it sounds as though he will try to name ...

Chicago Cubs: 10 Major Leaguers the Cubs Could Send to Boston for Theo Epstein

October 19, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

When the news broke out Tuesday that the Boston Red Sox initially requested Matt Garza for Theo Epstein, I am sure not a single fan thought what they were hearing was true. The Chicago Cubs have been waiting for a week now to get their new GM, and it appears that the reason is because the sides are more than far apart, they are in completely different worlds. In the end, the Cubs are likely not going to involve any current major league talent, but rather use a few prospects and some cash.I don't expect the Chicago Cubs to give up major-league talent, ...

Theo Epstein to Chicago Cubs for Trey McNutt? Why Wouldn’t Chicago Do This?

October 19, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Look, it doesn't really matter who the Boston Red Sox want, a good GM is always worth more than a single player. Especially when that single player is a former 32nd-round draft pick. I'm not suggesting that Theo Epstein will be a great GM for the Chicago Cubs. What I am saying is that a GM will impact a ballclub, positively or negatively, much more than any one player. Especially when the player in question was a very low-round draft choice. Now, this is not meant to inflate Epstein or reduce Trey McNutt, whom the Red Sox are reportedly now ...

Cubs Trade Rumors: Red Sox Ask for Matt Garza in Theo Epstein Deal

October 19, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The first reports are surfacing as to why Theo Epstein is not yet on a plane headed for Chicago.  Great negotiations. ESPN is reporting that the Boston Red Sox began negotiations by asking the Cubs for Matt Garza as compensation for Epstein. The Cubs responded by offering only cash as compensation. As you can see, the two sides were quite far apart. Why not shoot for the moon if you’re the Red Sox? The Cubs offered Epstein a position which he will accept. Cubs fans are salivating over this. It will be a colossal disappointment to fans if the deal falls ...

Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox Theo Epstein Deal Getting Ridiculous

October 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

It has been about a week now since the Chicago Cubs struck a deal with Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, but the compensation talks still drag on. And things look to be going into the wrong direction.Reports came out that the Boston Red Sox asked the Chicago Cubs for starting pitcher Matt Garza in return for Epstein. I hope the Red Sox were kidding, and if they weren't, Cub fans should be afraid of the direction that this deal is going. If the Red Sox truly believe they deserve a top tier player like Matt Garza, this deal just isn't ...

5 Reasons Matt Kemp Should Be Chicago Cubs’, Theo Epstein’s First Move

October 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

It looks like the Chicago Cubs may have to wait a little longer to make it official with the Boston Red Sox in their negotiations over general manager Theo Epstein.Once the World Series comes to a close, the sides should have come to a decision, and Epstein should be ready to start to get things going on the North Side. When Epstein does come into the Cubs organization, he is going to have to address many key issues. The Cubs need to be fixed wherever they can. One of the first places Epstein can begin would be addressing the outfield. It is ...

Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein Could Make Huge Splash with Pitch to CC Sabathia

October 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

When Theo Epstein is eventually installed as the new GM of the Cubs, I mentioned that his first order of business is firing the not-ready-for-prime-time Mike Quade. But I'm thinking that Epstein is going to want to make a splash in his first season at the Cubs helm. So what better way than to make a run at the Yankees' CC Sabathia? Yes, I know it is unlikely that Sabathia leaves the Yankees. After all, he says he loves it there and he has been very successful. But odds are he will opt out of his current contract. And while ...

Prince Fielder: Why Chicago Cubs Must Sign Brewers All-Star

October 17, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

On Sunday night, the St. Louis Cardinals eliminated Prince Fielder and the surging Milwaukee Brewers. There was more to this game though then just making the World Series though. It also had to do with keeping talent. It is no secret that Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols will be the two biggest names in free agency. Both teams would like to keep their star slugger, so nothing would convince them to stay more than making the World Series. With the Cardinals getting that spot, it looks even more likely that the face of the Cardinals' organization will likely be sticking around for ...
