Aramis Ramirez: The Catalyst The Cubs Have Been Looking For?

July 29, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Aramis Ramirez went down with a terrible injury this past May verse the Brewers when he dove for a ground ball and hurt his shoulder. People thought he would never be the same this year.  People thought he would be just like Derrek Lee when he came off his wrist injury. It pretty much took Lee a season and a half to get his power back. Even Ramirez doubted himself. He was quoted as saying, "I can't hit a home run if my life depended on it." He was wrong. Everyone was wrong. Ramirez went down with the injury on May 8 and ...

UPDATE: Injured Cubs Are Making Good Progress

July 19, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Saturday got off to a good start when the questionable Alfonso Soriano was added to the Cubs' lineup before their night game versus the Nationals. Soriano, who had a swollen finger on his right hand, came out with a bang and helped lift the Cubs to their 6-5 victory with a home run in the sixth inning. That was Soriano's first home run in over seven weeks. Things are looking up for the All-Star left-hander, Ted Lilly. Lilly was supposed to pitch on Saturday but was replaced by Randy Wells due to some inflammation in his knee. Lilly said he could have pitched ...

Report: Lily and Soriano Are The Latest to Be Bitten By The Injury Bug

July 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The injury bug is still going around in the club house on day two after the break. Left fielder, Alfonso Soriano and All-Star pitcher, Ted Lilly are the latest to be bitten. Soriano was scratched from game two versus the Nationals because of some swelling in a finger on his right hand. Soriano dislocated the finger after sliding into first base on Thursday night in the fourth inning. Soriano said of his injury, "The problem now is the swelling is too big and I cannot [grip the bat]." Soriano says he isn't worried about the pain. He just wants the swelling to ...

The Five Greatest Cubs Players of All-Time

July 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The Cubs have had some awesome players over the years. Players like Ron Santo, Ferguson Jenkins, Greg Maddux, Ryne Sandberg, and the list goes on. What about the no names? Who makes the top five list? Do I put Santo over Mad Dog? How about Mr. Cub over Lee Smith? Decisions, decisions, decisions, decisions. What do I do? Let's take a look.

NEWS: Dempster and Soto Could Return Soon

July 17, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Near the end of the first half, the Cubs were bitten by the injury bug once again. Geovany Soto and Ryan Dempster both went on the DL. Dempster, who broke his toe on July 5, has been throwing on flat ground and doing cardio work while he waits for the inflammation to go down in his right big toe. Reports are pointing to Dempster returning possibly in late July. Pinella gave some encouraging words when it came to Dempster. "Talking to Larry [Rothschild, pitching coach], he seemed to think the second [turn in the rotation] after the break is not out of ...

Why the Cubs Are the Team to Beat in the Second Half

July 16, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

This may sound crazy, but I firmly believe the Cubs are the team to beat in the second half. As injury-prone as they are, they are a force to be reckoned with. They had a million and a half problems during the first half of the season. Some major problems included Milton Bradley's very poor first half, the injury bug that has affected many players, the slow start by the bullpen, Soriano's struggles, and so on. But all of that is changing. You're probably thinking, "Why does he think this? What possible reasoning could this crazy guy have?" You want to know? Check ...

Baseball: My All-Cubs Team

July 13, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The Chicago Cubs have had some amazing ball players in their very long history. Players like Hack Wilson, Ron Santo, Ernie Banks, Greg Maddux have been able to wear the Cubbie Blue with pride. But who do we include on the all-time Cubs teams? Do we put Sammy Sosa in the outfield or Billy Williams? How about both? What about third? Santo or Ramirez? Lets take a look.

Words From The Heart: Why I Love The Loveable Losers

July 13, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The Cubs cause a lot of pain. Unless you're a true Cubs fan, you have no idea. 101 years is a long time to wait for a championship. A lot of people ask me, "Why do you invest so much into a team that produces so little?" That is a great question. I finally sat down to think of why. Here are the reasons: Because we play two. Because we had Ernie, Ronny, Billy, Fergie, and Phil all on one team. Because we experienced the magical summer of 1969. Because we call 1969 magical even though we choked in August. Because we experienced the 1998 home run ...

Alfonso Soriano: A New Sixth Hitter?

July 12, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Is Alfonso Soriano in the sixth hole the answer the Cubs have been looking for to pull Soriano out of his slump? I say yes. When Soriano was moved to the sixth hole, he was struggling badly. He was striking out and was lucky if he could put a ball in play. Since the move, Soriano is batting .333 (7-21). In the St. Louis series, Soriano is hitting .333 with one RBI and two walks. A big improvement over earlier in the season. I know this is early to judge whether Soriano in the six hole is working well. I think it is ...

Chicago Cubs: A Bunch of Chokes or Players in a Slump?

July 11, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Pirates great, Roberto Clemente once said, "You can never break out of a slump if you don't swing the bat." That's true. Think about it. If you don't swing, you will never break out. Tell that to the Cubs. The first issue for the Cubs is their outfield. An outfield that makes over $30 million all together per year, should not have only 78 RBI all together in July. Especially if two of those outfielders are supposed to be "power" hitters. An infamous member of this outfield, Alfonso Soriano, is slumping. It's as simple as that. But he has been slumping since May. ...
